Established in 1987, Pain Department is one of the earliest pain specialties in China. The department has independent outpatient and ward. It employs more than 20 medical staff including 3 chief physicians, 1 deputy chief physician, 3 attending physicians and a total of 17 physicians, nurses and technicians. In recent years, the department has published more than 70 academic papers including over 10 papers in SCI-indexed journals. It has obtained 1 national invention patent. The department has obtained 9 scientific research projects including 3 projects from Department of Science and Technology of Shaanxi Province, 1 from Shaanxi Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 1 from Health Commission of Shaanxi Province, 1 from former Family Planning Commission of Shaanxi Province, 1 from National Health Commission and 2 from the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU). The Department is equipped with 2 radiofrequency therapeutic devices, 1 ozone therapeutic device, 1 internal hot needle therapeutic device, 1 infrared thermal imaging detector, 1 shock wave device and 5 cervical lumbar traction devices,etc. After arduous efforts for more than 30 years, the department has achieved outstanding efficacy in the comprehensive treatment of pain diseases, especially in the minimally invasive surgery. It has established a complete pain treatment system in the northwest region and even in China. The department has the highest level of diagnosis and treatment in northwest China.
Diagnostic and therapeutic characteristics
The department is one of the earliest to introduce and carry out the minimally invasive surgery for pain in China: radiofrequency target ablation and ozone nucleolysis. It has obtained breakthroughs and significant efficacy in the management of cervical/lumbar disc herniation, trigeminal neuralgia, spinal radicular pain and other intractable pain,etc. The department comprehensively employs minimally invasive technology and a variety of non-surgical therapies to relieve the pain on the premise of small trauma, low cost and high safety.
