The Geriatrics Department 1 (the original Jianyuan Ward 2) was officially opened up on July 2, 1985. After 1986, Cardiovascular Medicine was designated as the specialty of our department, which was responsible for the medical and health care tasks of current and retired leading cadres and specialists. Since 1994, Geriatrics Department has been established, specialized in geriatric medicine and geriatric surgery. The Geriatrics Department 1 belongs to the geriatric medical department, specializing in cardiovascular medicine. After more than 30 years of effort, the department has developed into an independent department of medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, and cadre health care, and has been named "Advanced Group of Xi'an Jiaotong University", "Advanced Group of Cadre Health Care in Shaanxi Province", Hospital-level "Advanced Department of Medical Quality and Safety" and "Advanced Department of Style Construction". At present, Professor Su Xianming, currently Director of the Geriatrics Department 1, is the member of the Board of Directors of the Chinese Association of Geriatrics, the member of the National Committee of Geriatric Physicians of the Chinese Medical Association, and the vice chairman of the Branch of Geriatrics of the Association of doctors of Shaanxi Province, the standing committee member of Shaanxi Medical Association Geriatrics Branch, the vice chairman of Xi'an Medical Association Geriatrics Branch, and the editorial committee of Journal of Xi'an Jiaotong University (Medical Edition).

Currently, in the department, there are 35 beds, which includes 5 intensive care beds, 1 functional examination room and 1 comprehensive evaluation room, and new-type ECG monitors of GE Company in the United States. And ambulatory blood pressure testing, dynamic electrocardiogram testing, six-minute walking test, arterial elasticity monitoring, and extracorporeal counterpulsation and barotherapy could be carriedout. In addition, the department has accumulated numerously valuable clinical experience in the diagnosis and treatment of common cardiovascular diseases such as acute myocardial infarction, hypertension, heart failure, arrhythmia and multiple organ failure in the elderly. In the past three years, the department lauched 4 items of new medical technology, and was awarded to the “National Health and Family Planning Commission” in 2014.

The department is an academic team, consists of three generations of old, middle and young, including 2 professors, 1 associate professor, 6 attending physicians, and 16 nursing and medical technicians. There are 3 masters and graduate tutors, 15 graduate graduates successively. The department also undertakes the teaching tasks of geriatrics medicine for five-year, seven-year and eight-year medical students. In recent years, the department owns over 7 projects above the provincial level, and more than 50 published academic papers, of which 16 have been collected by SCI or MI. In 2018, the department has been awarded the first batch of country of "Geriatrics Training Center (northwest) Base" and the first "Geriatric Specialist Training Base".

We will make unremitting efforts to improve medical technology andservice attitude, and provide high-quality medical services for elderly patients with cardiovascular diseases and health care objects, to further get their hearts and bodies be well comforted and rehabilitated.
