International medical delegation led by Adel Shervin visits FAH for a series of academic activities

On May 21, 2024, an international medical delegation consisting of 15 experts and scholars from the United States, Canada, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, Japan, Nepal, and Norway visited the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) for a series of academic exchange activities. The event was chaired by Assistant Presiednt Wang Zheng.

Vice President She Junjun delivered the welcome speech. Song Jianming, founder and head of Vancouver Megafu Medical Center in Canada, Adel Shervin, former Professor and Director of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Washington School of Medicine in United State, Resad Pasic, Director of the Gynecologic Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery Center at the University of Louisville School of Medicine in United State; and John Hagen, President and Chief of Surgery at Humber River Hospital, University of Toronto in Canada gave speeches,respectively. Following the welcome ceremony, experts proceeded to conduct a series of academic activities in relevant clinical disciplines.

During the obstetrics and gynecology sessions, Omer Devaja, Director of the Gynecologic Oncology Training Center at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust in the UK, Resad Pasic, former President of the International Society for Gynecologic Endoscopy (ISGE) and the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL), Amira Quevedo, Professor of Minimally Invasive Gynecology at the University of Florida in United State, and Adel Shervin, former Professor and Director of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Washington School of Medicine in United State, each delivered lectures entitled "Hysterectomy and Sentinel Lymph Node Dissection for Endometrial Cancer," "Laparoscopic Surgical Approaches: Technical Review and Complications," "The Microbiome and Endometriosis," and "Laparoscopic Treatment of Ovarian Borderline Tumors," respectively. Clinical staff from the obstetrics and gynecology department participated in the lectures, engaging in in-depth discussions and lively exchanges with experts on hot topics.

In the gastrointestinal surgery sessions, John Hagen, President of Humber River Hospital, University of Toronto in Canada and Chief of Surgery, Mattan Lustgarten, a minimally invasive surgeon from the University of Toronto, delivered lectures titled "Laparoscopic Treatment of T4 Colon Cancer" and "Which is Better: T2 or T3 Resection for Right-Sided Colon Cancer?" respectively. After the discussion, the two experts visited the operating room to observe a robot-assisted laparoscopic colectomy for colon cancer.

At the emergency and critical care session, Song Jianming and Prakash Paudyal, Director of Nepal National Hospital, delivered lectures titled "Advanced Trauma Life Support: Initial Assessment and Management" and "The Development and Current State of Critical Care Medicine in Nepal," respectively. They subsequently toured EICU and emergency trauma resuscitation unit in FAH.
