From October 17 to 19, 2024, "The Belt and Road" International Training Course for Diagnosis, Treatment and Research of Gastrointestinal Tumors was successfully held in the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) and Yulin Hospital. More than 20 surgeons from 5 countries including Brazil, Ecuador, Mongolia, Kazakhstan and Vietnam participated in the exchange activity.
The training course consisted of surgical demonstrations, lectures and academic exchanges, and visits and studies, which fully demonstrated scientific research capabilities and diagnosis and treatment technology levels of FAH and Yulin Hospital in the field of gastrointestinal tumors and effectively promoted the development and progress in diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal tumors and minimally invasive surgery in countries along the “Belt and Road Initiative”.
During the training session, intriguing academic lectures were delivered, such as "Understanding and Practice of the Concept of Hyper-minimally Invasive Gastrointestinal Endoscopy", "Application and Thinking of Da Vinci robot-assisted Colorectal Cancer Surgery", "Preventing the Failure of Gastrointestinal Anastomosis in Emergency Surgery" and "Basic Research on Gastrointestinal Tumors", sharing fundamental principles and future prospects of hyper-minimally invasive surgery, and strengthening the surgical robot-assisted operational capability of surgeons, aiming to achieve the goal of "curing diseases and full recovery".
During surgical demonstration session, the trainees observed four operations. Professor She Junjun’ team from Yulin Hospital of FAH successfully completed 1case of Da Vinci robot-assisted radical resection of rectal cancer and 1 case of laparoscopic radical resection of gastric cancer, respectively. Professor He Shuixiang’s team performed 1 case of endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) and 1 case of endoscopic full-thickness resection (EFTR) of gastric fundus stromal tumor, respectively. Surgical demonstration was conducted by livestreaming and in-person, showcasing China’s latest progress and technical level of endoscopic surgery to the surgeons along the "Belt and Road" countries.
In Med-X Research Institute of FAH, international trainees were highly interested in the integrated "clinical-basic-engineering" scientific research platform. Professor Wang Yanan, vice president of Med-X Research Institute, and researchers Han Jing and Guo Gang from Center for Gut Microbiome Research shared a series of international cooperative research results surrounding the specific theme of "Gut Microecology and Gastrointestinal Tumors".
