During the 19th National Annual Congress of Chinese Society of Neurosurgery of Chinese Medical Association, the 6th "Striving for Excellence in Neurosurgery Skills-Neurosurgery Skills Competition for Young Surgeons", hosted by Chinese Society of Neurosurgery of Chinese Medical Association and organized by Youth Member Committee of Chinese Society of Neurosurgery of Chinese Medical Association and Editorial Office of Chinese Neurosurgical Journal, was grandly launched on May 21. Li Kuo, a young neurosurgeon from the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi 'an Jiaotong University (XJTU), submitted "Case report : Excision of left posterior temporal epileptic foci" and grabbed the national championship in the “Epilepsy Surgery Group” by explicit case presentation, objective analysis and positioning, definite diagnosis and treatment process and surgical expertise.

In this case presentation, a 7-year-old child was diagnosed with drug-resistant epilepsy caused by Dysembryoplastic Neuroepithelial Tumor complicated Focal Cortical Dysplasia. Since the episode after birth, multiple antiepileptic drug therapies have been given and yielded low clinical efficacy. Through comprehensive analysis of clinical manifestations and electroencephalogram, the abnormal discharge was originated from the left temporal lobe. Through further image data analysis, using the world's leading machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithm models, he carried out individualized analysis and simulation of the children's multi-modal image data and formulated a complete surgical plan. The precision surgery was successfully performed under the assistance of multiple neurosurgical safety equipment.Postoperative imaging reexamination showed that the resection range met the preoperative expectation. No bleeding or other abnormal changes were observed. The child restored normal life at postoperative 2d, and the wound was healed at 4d after operation. The patient was discharged from hospital and returned to school at postoperative 1 week. No clinical episode occurred postoperatively.

"Striving for Excellence in Neurosurgery Skills-Neurosurgery Skills Competition for Young Surgeons" is a national competition, aiming to inherit and carry forward the excellent tradition initiated by generations of neurosurgical experts, encourage young neurosurgeons to deliver mutual exchange and communication and improve their surgical skills. The original intention of this competition is to guide young surgeons to understand the comprehensive process of treating a certain disease, covering preoperative diagnosis, understanding of surgical indications and postoperative follow-up. All participants are not only required to showcase surgical skills, but also need to display the evaluation and thinking of a certain disease.
