From May 2 to 6, 2024, the 119th Annual Meeting of American Urological Association (AUA) was held in San Antonio, Texas, gathering nearly 10,000 urologists or scholars from all over the world. A 4-member team led by Professor He Dalin and Professor Wu Kaijie from Department of Urology of the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) was invited to attend and deliver presentations at AUA 2024.

During the meeting, PhD Li Tao gave a podium presentation entitled "Gut microbiota-mediated bile acid metabolism associated with the response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in muscle-invasive bladder cancer", reporting a novel gut microbiota and metabolic marker discovered by the team that can predict the efficacy of neoadjuvant chemotherapy for muscle-invasive bladder cancer. Relevant research outcomes captivated special attention from Professor Seth Lerner, a top-notched global scholar in the field of bladder cancer and Director of Department of Urology of Baylor College of Medicine, and Professor Zachary Smith from University of Washington, Chair of AUA 2024. PhD Ma Minghai gave a poster presentation entitled "Arginine-rich peptide conjugates enhance tumor-targeted imaging and delivery mediated by the Piezo1/integrin β1 axis in bladder cancer”, illustrating an arginine-rich peptide conjugate that can promote the mechanical sensation and cell uptake mediated by the mechanical signal Piezo1/integrin β1 axis and enhance targeted imaging and transmission of bladder cancer through positive feedback transmission.

Department of Urology is approved as a National Key Discipline, National Key Clinical Specialty and Clinical Research Center of Urological Diseases of Shaanxi Province. Under the leadership of Director Li Lei, the sub-specialty of bladder cancer has developed rapidly, which has become a member of Chinese Bladder Cancer Consortium, Standardized Diagnosis and Treatment Center of Bladder Cancer of China Anti-Cancer Association, Painless Flexible Cystoscopy Demonstration Center in Central and Western China, and a Top 100 Urological Tumor Affiliations in China. Multiple bladder cancer-related research outcomes were showcased at AUA 2024 Annual Meeting, captivating widespread attention from international colleagues and peers. It not only continued long-term tradition of subsidizing young physicians or graduate students from Department of Urology to attend international meetings for academic exchanges, but also fully demonstrated the discipline achievements in clinical diagnosis and treatment, scientific research and youth talent training of this sub-specialty.
