On March 15, 2019, a patient with severe aortic stenosis was admitted to Department of Cardiology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University. After extensive discussion on the disease conditions, Dr. Han Ke and his colleagues were determined to select transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) as the optimal treatment plan. The whole process of TAVR was operated by Dr. Han with the cooperation of multiple departments including Department of Cardiology, Department of Interventional Surgery, Department of Anesthesia and Department of Ultrasound.etc.
Our hospital has completed more than 10 cases of TAVR under the guidance of national well-known experts from other hospitals. For this patient, full preparations were made by all relevant departments within the hospital to guarantee the success of TAVR. Afterwards, Dr.Han illustrated and explained four key procedures of TAVR: preparation of peripheral vascular approach, smooth transvalvular insertion of guide wire, accurate selection of balloon type, and precise release of prosthetic valve.
After 2-h TAVR, the patient was safely transferred to Coronary Care Unit (CUU) for further treatment. The operation proceeded smoothly!
The success of this operation cannot be achieved without the joint efforts of all staff, which inspires us to move forward, keep learning and refine each procedure of TAVR, aiming to provide patients with medical services with better quality and higher safety!
