After graduating from Xi 'an Medical University in 1986, Lin Shumei has been working in Department of Infectious Disease of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi 'an Jiaotong University (XJTU). She received a master's degree in 1996 and a doctoral degree in Internal Medicine in 2006. She has been engaged in clinical, teaching and scientific research of liver diseases and infectious diseases. From June 2004 to January 2015, she served as Deputy Director and Director of Department of Infectious Disease. She is first-grade chief physician.

Professor Lin Shumei has undertaken 1 National Natural Science Foundation of China project, 4 projects of Shaanxi province, Major Project for Prevention and Treatment of Infectious Diseases related to hepatitis B-induced liver failure and blockage interventions for hepatitis B mother-to-child transmission in the 11^th Five-Year Plan, 12^th Five-Year Plan and 13^th Five-Year Plan (4 sub-projects as the project leader) with a total of over 5.1 million Yuan of funding. She has published more than 100 academic papers including over 20 in SCI-indexed journals, participated in editing 16 textbooks and monographs, edited 1 monograph as the chief editor and edited 2 monographs as associate chief editor.

Professor Lin Shumei has received Science and Technology Progress Award of Shaanxi Province for 3 times, Advanced Individual of Bethune Spirit Award of Shaanxi Province in 2012, Advanced Individual in Spiritual Civilization Construction in Health System of Shaanxi Province in 2009, Wang Kuancheng Youth Talent Award of XJTU in 2011, and obtained the honorary title of the 1^st Humanistic Physicians of the First Affiliated Hospital of XJTU in 2016.
