From April 1 to 2, the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) held a special meeting of establishing National Regional Medical Centers. Meng Xiaojun, Director of Department of Hospital Management of XJTU Health Science Center, Professor Li Xu, Professor Shi Bingyin, Professor Yuan Zuyi, Professor Sun Xuejun, Professor Wang Qiag, Professor Yang Jian, Professor Hou Peng and other clinical experts from our hospital were invited to conduct on-the-spot evaluation upon the progress of the construction of National Regional Medical Centers of 6 disciplines during the 13th Five-Year Plan period and deliver self-evaluation and construction of 5 disciplines of National Regional Medical Centers in the 14th Five-Year Plan period. Lyu Yi, President of our hospital also attended the special meeting.
The meeting was chaired by Vice President Ma Xiancang, and Professor Shi Bingyin served as Head of the evaluation expert group. First of all, President Lyu Yi stressed the role and significance of self-examination and self-evaluation. Subsequently, Ma Xin, Director of Discipline Construction Office reported the overall layout of "two centers" in China and the construction of National Regional Medical Centers of our hospital with the title of "Accelerating the Construction Speed to Become National Regional Medical Centers".
Representatives from 5 disciplines of National Regional Medical Centers including cardiovascular diseases, neurological diseases, infectious diseases, cancer and mental diseases delivered detailed introduction of the progress in the previous year, outstanding achievements, concrete progress according to the construction plan and continual progress of substandard indicators. Staff from 6 disciplines scheduled to apply for National Regional Medical Centers, including obstetrics and gynecology, hematological diseases, endocrine and metabolic diseases, critical medicine, major public health events and rare diseases,gave explicit report covering four aspects: self-evaluation, advantages and characteristics, existing problems and required support.
The evaluation experts fully affirmed the construction of various disciplines in our hospital and the self-evaluation work of the application disciplines for National Regional Medical Centers. Meantime, they also pointed out the problems existing in each discipline during the construction of National Regional Medical Centers and provided constructive suggestions. Experts proposed that extensive efforts should be made to further highlight the characteristics of disciplines, deliver scientific planning and overall layout, continuously improve the competitiveness and elevate regional influence for the construction of National Regional Medical Centers. For the application disciplines, disadvantages and limitations should be resolved, especially in terms of medical service capacity, talent recruitment, teaching and research and platform construction, and relevant resources should be rationally integrated to make full preparations for the application process in advance.
Finally, Professor Shi Bingyin concluded that the construction of National Regional Medical Centers is an essential part of the strategy of "Healthy China". Our hospital should seize such significant development opportunity, provide all-round support and guarantee for enhancing the quality and efficiency of discipline construction, make concrete efforts to promote all-round work of establishing National Regional Medical Centers, boost the overall discipline development of our hospital to a new height, and lay a solid foundation for achieving high-quality and substantial advancement of our hospital.
