Recently, the plaque-award ceremony of the Cardiovascular Disease Quality Initiative (CDQI) National Pulmonary Vascular Disease Center has been held online. The First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) has been awarded the inaugural National Center of Excellence for Standardized Pulmonary Vascular Diseases and unveiled the plaque, as one of only 14 centers selected as the first recipients. Prof. Fan Fenling from Department of Structural Heart Disease is offered a place in the Expert Review Panel of the Center and also serves as the Secretary General.

In November 2019, the Cardiovascular Disease Quality Initiative (CDQI), which was co-founded by the National Health Commission Capacity Building and Continuing Education Center, National Clinical Research Center for Cardiovascular Diseases and Chinese Society of Cardiology, was kicked off. In 2020, CDQI National Center for Standardized Pulmonary Vascular Diseases released the construction and evaluation criteria, and rolled out the accreditation of Chest Pain Center, Atrial Fibrillation Center, Heart Failure Center, Hypertension Center and Cardiac Rehabilitation Center in all the medical centers across the country and awarded the plaque. The mission is to improve the diagnosis and treatment capacity of standardized diseases, enjoy education and training resources, collaborate with medical institutions on the platform, jointly establish and share scientific research data for a world-class big data platform of cardiovascular diseases by building the National Center for Standardized Pulmonary Vascular Diseases, which provides complete clinical service capacity improvement solutions to achieve the synergetic development of clinical services, scientific research and talent training.

Considering the scale, strength of technicians, medical, education and research levels of different centers as well as encourage and guidance of the regional agency, CDQI National Center for Standardized Pulmonary Vascular Diseases is classified into the center of excellence, demonstration center and construction center by the score of construction and evaluation criteria (full mark: 1000). Based on the continuous construction and maintenance of the first batch of 5 centers as above mentioned, 5 new centers of specialized diseases have been added in 2021, and the construction and approval of the second batch of centers are ongoing. Benefiting from our hospital’s efforts over many years, thanks to the great assistance of Department of Cardiology, Department of Structural Heart Disease, Department of Cardiac Surgery and Multidisciplinary Diagnosis and Treatment Center for Pulmonary Hypertension and under the guidance of Yuan Zuyi, the Dean of Cardiovascular Medicine Institute, our hospital has been in the construction and evaluation of CDQI National Center for Standardized Pulmonary Vascular Diseases. Through repeated discussions, demonstrations, evaluation and identification of criteria for more than half a year, our hospital has passed preliminary evaluations and screenings and finally been awarded the inaugural Center of Excellence.
