Department of Neurology successfully holds the 4th Clinical Neuroelectrophysiological Forum

Under the leadership of Professor Dang Jingxia, the 4th Clinical Neuroelectrophysiological Forum was held on the morning of September 11, 2021, aiming to promote the development and academic exchange of neuroelectrophysiology in Northwest China.

Director Qu Qiuming from Department of Neurology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) delivered a speech, and Professor Dang Jingxia presided over the forum. By combining themed lectures and case sharing, a feast of knowledge was brought to the colleagues in the field of neuromuscular diseases. In the session of lectures, Professor Kang Juan from Xijing Hospital shared how to analyze the clinical and electromyographic features of patients diagnosed with diabetes mellitus for many years presenting with peripheral nerve damage inconsistent with the symptoms of diabetes mellitus. Physician Jin Jiaoting from our hospital summarized the differences of muscle positive rate at different onset sites by analyzing the needle electrode electromyography of more than 100 ALS patients, providing guiding significance for clinical practice. Physician Qin Xing from our hospital shared several clinical cases to illustrate the changeable lipid storage myopathy.

Physician Hu Fangfang, Zhang Tieying and Liu Jingjie shared the diagnosis of FOSMN, a rare disease, and illustrated how to make the diagnosis of leprosy patients accompanied with asymmetric multiple single nerve injury by EMG physicians, and investigated the causes of different prognosis of AMAN patients according to EMG changes and mechanisms during different periods, respectively. Finally, Professor Qi Huaguang, Professor Xiang Li and Professor Zhang Gejuan gave intriguing comments on the themed lectures and case sharing, bringing tremendous benefits to the participants.

Due to the impact of COVID-19, this forum was live broadcast on the online platform, which lifted the limitations of venues and distance of offline patterns in previous years. More than 500 participants attended this forum online, which significantly improved the diagnostic and treatment levels of neuromuscular diseases in Northwest China. All participants expressed that they obtained tremendous benefits from this forum,looking forward to more forums of such type.
