From April 9 to 11, 2021, the 2021 Annual Meeting of Kidney Transplantation Branch of China International Exchange and Promotion Association for Medical and Healthcare in conjunction with the 5th Huaxia Forum on Kidney Transplantation were grandly held in Guangzhou. The First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) is the chief affiliation of Kidney Transplantation Branch of China International Exchange and Promotion Association for Medical and Healthcare. Professor Xue Wujun and Professor Tian Puxun were directors of the 1stand 2nd annual meetings. Professor Ding Xiaoming is the Secretary-General. This is the first academic annual meeting after the establishment of the 2nd Kidney Transplantation Branch.
Wang Xiaomin, Vice President and Secretary-General of China International Exchange and Promotion Association for Medical and Healthcare, Hou Fanfan, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Director of National Clinical Research Center for Kidney Diseases from Nanfang Hospital of Southern Medical University, Professor Mei Hua, a prestigious urology expert who completed the first case of living related kidney transplantation in China in 1972, Professor Chen Shi, Director of the 4th and 5th Chinese Society of Organ Transplantation of Chinese Medical Association, Professor He Xiaoshun, a liver transplantation expert and Vice President of the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, and over 300 participants including consultants, deputy directors, standing committee members and committee members of Kidney Transplantation Branch were invited to attend the annual meeting. Professor Peter Nickerson, Vice Dean of Faculty of Medicine of University of Manitoba, Chairman of Kidney Transplantation Center, Executive Medical Director of Office of Organs and Tissues of Canadian Blood Services shared the latest research progress on HLA matching and delivered exchanges with Chinese counterparts.
Professor Xue Wujun serves as the Honorary President of the annual meeting and Professor Tian Puxun is the President. The annual meeting was held both online and offline. Live broadcast was delivered at the main venue and sub-venues, with the maximal quantity of more than 1,500 audiences both online and offline. During the annual meeting, multi-stream live broadcast was adopted, and simultaneous live broadcast was conducted at multiple venues, which explored novel methods and patterns for subsequent academic conferences during the normalized prevention and control of COVID-19 pandemic.
Professor Tian Puxun, President of the annual meeting, delivered an opening remark. On behalf of President Shi Bingyi and colleagues from Chinese Society of Organ Transplantation of Chinese Medical Association, Professor Xue Wujun, President-designate of Chinese Society of Organ Transplantation of Chinese Medical Association, congratulated the successful opening of the annual meeting. Wang Xiaomin, Vice President of China International Exchange and Promotion Association for Medical and Healthcare, proposed two suggestions regarding the scientific and technological innovation of Organ Transplantation Branch. First, The principle of clinical problem-oriented should be upheld. Multi-center prospective clinical and community-based cohort studies are encouraged. Clinical samples should be collected and omics studies should be carried out, aiming to unravel the pathogenesis, explore the biomarkers and treatment targets and achieve the goals of early warning, diagnosis and treatment. Second, multidisciplinary cross-integration and innovation should be valued. Based on the improvement in allotransplantation, xenotransplantation and stem cell organ studies should be actively conducted, aiming to overcome the global insufficiency of donor organ sources and bring benefit to the mankind.
Academician Hou Fanfan, Professor Peter Nickerson and Professor Xue Wujun delivered keynote speeches entitled "Big Data and Chronic Disease Clinical Trials", "HLA Molecular Mismatch-On the Path to Precision Medicine in Transplantation" and "Innovative Development of Human Organ Donation and Transplantation in China", respectively. The annual meeting focused on 9 topics in the field of kidney transplantation. All participants delivered heated exchanges and discussions on clinical trials of kidney transplantation, transplantation immunity, living kidney transplantation, kidney transplantation-associated infection, evaluation, maintenance and procurement of donated organs, pediatric kidney transplantation, pathology of kidney transplantation, organ donation and coordination and nursing care after kidney transplantation. Thirteen professionals from Department of Kidney Transplantation in our hospital attended the meeting and contributed to intriguing hosts, speeches and panel discussions.
"Kidney Transplantation Branch of China International Exchange and Promotion Association for Medical and Healthcare" has become a normalized mechanism and platform to promote academic exchanges and discussions on technologies, criteria, procedures and standards of kidney transplantation in China, aiming to build Kidney Transplantation Branch of China International Exchange and Promotion Association for Medical and Healthcare into a prestigous branch that impacts social services, contributes to national development, promotes industry norms and bolsters disciplinary construction.
