On December 22, 2019, the 1st National Competition of Laparoscopic Surgical Skills (Northwest division), hosted by Professional Committee of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Endoscopist Branch of Chinese Medical Doctor Association and Laparoscopic Surgeon Training Institute of Chinese Medical Doctor Association, and co-organized by National Medical Examination Center and Endoscopist Branch of Chinese Medical Doctor Association, was held in the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU). The selection competition was simultaneously held at seven test sites throughout China. Our hospital, as the only test site in northwest China, undertook the selection competition for 36 candidates from eight affiliations in Shaanxi province, Gansu province, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, Qinghai province and Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.
Professor Sun Xuejun, Director of Laparoscopic Skill Training Base of our hospital, stressed that this laparoscopic skill competition is the first large-scale national laparoscopic skill competition in China. It is also the first laparoscopic skill competition since the establishment of Laparoscopic Surgeon Training Institute of Chinese Medical Doctor Association, which can demonstrate the outcomes of laparoscopic training in China. He highlighted that the intelligent laparoscopic simulation training equipment (LAPMENTOR), provided by Beijing Beidestar Technology and Development Co., Ltd., will be applied in national modular examination. After the examination, the system will automatically generate the scores. Meanwhile, 5G communication technology and ‘Aliyun’ data transmission technology will be adopted to upload the competition scores of hundreds of candidates from 7 competition sites nationwide to West China Hospital, the main competition site, in a real-time manner. This competition is the first among all domestic medical skill competitions to realize uniform examination contents, processes and standards.
Subsequently, Associate Professor Wei Guangbing introduced the four modules of this competition: laparoscopic operation (30° laparoscope), hand-eye coordination, trocar transfer and plate cutting. He further led the candidates to watch the operation video of the examination modules and then emphasized the examination discipline, operation requirement and scoring rules.
After intense competition for nearly 6 hours, Physician Li Chao from Department of General Surgery and Physician Wan Yong from Department of Geriatric Surgery of our hospital, Physician Ma Rong and Physician Li Xiaodong from the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University, Physician Shi Xiangtian and Physician Jia Yaodong from Bayannur Hospital in Inner Mongolia entered the final competition on January 12, 2020.
