At the invitation of President Byambasuren Luvsandagva of the First Central Hospital of Mongolia, Professors Li Yu and Yan Xiaopeng from magnetic surgery team led by Professor Lyu Yi went to Mongolia from November 2 to 6, 2025 to carry out magnetic surgery procedures and academic activities. On November 3, 2025, Professors Li Yu and Yan Xiaopeng attended an introductory meeting at the First Central Hospital of Mongolia. Byambasuren Luvsandagva, President of the First Central Hospital of Mongolia, Choidog Oyunbat, Vice President, and Bat-ireedui Badarch, Director of the Organ Transplantation Center, along with other leaders and experts, were present. President Byambasuren Luvsandagva stated that the implementation of the collaborative project on biliary magnetic surgery with the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) will promote the development and application of clinical techniques in this field in Mongolia, and expressed the hope of continuously expanding in-depth cooperation across additional specialties in the future. Subsequently, Professor Li Yu shared the team's explorations and accumulated clinical experience in applying magnetic recanalization technology for the treatment of biliary atresia. Professor Yan Xiaopeng then presented the current development status of magnetic surgery at the FAH, highlighting significant achievements and major breakthroughs, particularly in the use of magnetic surgical techniques for treating gastrointestinal strictures and magnetic anchor technology in reducing trocar ports during laparoscopic procedures.

On November 4, 2025, under the remote guidance of Professor Lyu Yi, Professors Li Yu and Yan Xiaopeng, together with a multidisciplinary team from the Mongolian side, conducted joint consultations on two complex and difficult cases. They then successfully performed ERCP-based magnetic recanalization for biliary obstruction in two patients with biliary occlusion after living-donor liver transplantation. This procedure marked the first clinical application of magnetic surgery in Mongolia after the cooperation agreement was signed between the FAH and the First Central Hospital of Mongolia. Multiple mainstream Mongolian media outlets, such as Arslan.mn, produced special reports on the operations, and Professors Li Yu and Yan Xiaopeng were interviewed by Arslan.mn after the procedures. President Byambasuren Luvsandagva, Vice President Choidog Oyunbat, and Director of the Organ Transplantation Center Bat-ireedui Badarch observed the surgeries throughout. They expressed the hope for sustained, in-depth collaboration between the two institutions in areas such as clinical technical assistance in magnetic surgery, talent cultivation, and scientific research.

Following the procedures, Professor Li Yu and Professor Yan Xiaopeng respectively delivered academic lectures entitled “Magnetic Anastomosis for Refractory Biliary Strictures after Liver Transplantation” and “Magnetic Anastomosis for Gastrointestinal Strictures”.

During the visit, Professors Li Yu and Yan Xiaopeng also observed living-donor liver transplantation procedures performed by the Mongolian team, and toured the Liver Transplant Center, Operating Rooms, and the Endoscopy Center. They conducted postoperative follow-up visits with two patients who had previously received treatment at the FAH.
