Our hospital successfully holds the 1st International Summit on Innovation and Development in Minimally Invasive Spinal Surgery

From October 18 to 19, with the extensive support from Xi 'an Jiaotong University (XJTU), Department of Orthopedics of the First Affiliated Hospital of XJTU successfully held the ‘1st International Summit on Innovation and Development in Minimally Invasive Spinal Surgery’.

Over 500 experts and professors from the United States, Chongqing, Beijing, Guangdong province, Gansu province, Sichuan province, Henan province, Qingdao and other medical institutions at all administrative levels were invited to attend the summit. Professor Zhang Xiaowei and Professor Zhao Weigong from Department of Orthopedics of our hospital served as the President, and Associate Professor Du Heng presided over the summit.

During the meeting, special lectures were delivered on the hot issues of minimally invasive spine surgery, and live surgical demonstration was introduced to vividly showcase the latest technology and clinical treatment progress in the field of minimally invasive spinal surgery. Dr. James.W.Simmons from the United States illustrated the gold standard for discectomy. Professor Zhou Yue, orthopedic expert from Xin Qiao Hospital of Chongqing demonstrated the innovation and application of percutaneous endoscopic lumbar interbody fusion (ZELIF). Associate Professor Du Heng, Associate Professor Li Xinyou, Associate Professor Yang Yimin and Associate Professor Ren Zhiwei from Department of Orthopedics of our hospital delivered informative speeches, sharing their respective concepts and experiences of minimally invasive spinal surgery.

Percutaneous internal fixation technology, endoscopic spinal fusion technology and intervertebral foramen mirror technology collectively constitute the core of minimally invasive spinal surgery. In recent years, Department of Orthopedics of our hospital has completed more than 1,000 minimally invasive surgeries of various types. In addition, it has actively and continuously introduced novel technologies. Recently, the first case of spinal fusion surgery via the ZELIF endoscopic channel was performed in northwest China, which was more minimally invasive, safer and accelerated postoperative recovery.
