From September 21 to 24, 2025, the 23rd Congress of the International Association of Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and Clinical Toxicology (IATDMCT) was held in Singapore, with in-depth discussions focusing on cutting-edge areas such as alternative sampling strategies, anti-infective agents, clinical toxicology/substance abuse, immunosuppressants and biomarkers, quantitative pharmacology, pharmacogenetics, therapeutic drug monitoring for biologics, therapeutic drug monitoring in oncology, and toxicology and environmental health. More than 500 professionals from around the world attended the congress, including specialists in pharmaceutical analysis, clinical pharmacology, clinical toxicology, clinical medicine, pharmacy, and laboratory medicine.

Associate Researcher and clinical pharmacist Wang Taotao from the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) delivered a presentation titled “The high-risk factors and potential mechanisms of hepatotoxicity of voriconazole”, highlighting the potential mechanisms of voriconazole-induced hepatotoxicity and a clinical early-warning approach. Risk factors for voriconazole-induced hepatotoxicity included blood drug concentrations exceeding 6.87 mg/L, co-administration of hepatotoxic agents, and septic shock as an underlying condition. The study demonstrated that voriconazole N-oxide induces liver injury by triggering oxidative stress; using a quantitative systems toxicology (QST) model, the incidence of hepatotoxicity under the standard voriconazole dosing regimen was estimated at 17.9%. These findings provide important evidence for the early identification and prevention of voriconazole-induced hepatotoxicity in clinical practice.

Returning to China, Wang Taotao briefed the department on research hotspots and cutting-edge issues in model-guided precision pharmacotherapy in clinical practice, the development of novel detection technologies, and the precision use of biomacromolecular medicines.
