On September 14, 2025, the “Sino-Europe Scientific Seminar (Xi’an Session)”, organized by the Shaanxi Anti-Cancer Association, was successfully held in Xi’an. The event aimed to foster in-depth academic exchanges and collaboration between China and Europe in the field of radiology, enhance research quality in radiology departments, promote disciplinary advancement, and improve clinical service capabilities. It also sought to help domestic scholars overcome research bottlenecks and bring the achievements of China’s clinical practice to the international academic stage.

The seminar began with an opening address by Prof. YangJian, Chair of the Tumor Radiology Committee of the Shaanxi Anti-Cancer Association, Director of the Department of Radiology at the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), and doctoral supervisor. Prof. Yang emphasized that radiology serves as the “cornerstone” of precision cancer diagnosis and treatment. Focusing on the theme “Research Empowering Clinical Practice, Collaboration Driving Development”, the seminar featured lectures by editors-in-chief of leading international journals. In his concluding remarks, Prof. Yang highlighted the strong participation of young physicians and stressed that the event would substantively enhance their ability to write scientific research papers.

At the seminar, Prof. Bernd Hamm, Senior Professor at Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin and Editor-in-Chief of European Radiology, delivered lectures titled “Golden Rules of Research” and “How to Write a Good Paper and Select a Journal”, in which he also conducted real-case analyses of common reasons for manuscript rejection. Prof. Francesco Sardanelli, Scientific Coordinator of the Milan-Monza-Brianza Alliance Against Cancer in Italy and Editor-in-Chief of European Radiology Experimental, gave a lecture on “Designing Robust Clinical Studies: From Hypothesis to Protocol”, providing insights into techniques for clinical study design.

Among domestic experts, Prof. Liang Ting from the FAH of XJTU and Prof. Yan Bin from the Department of Radiology at Shaanxi Provincial Cancer Hospital shared practical experience in submitting manuscripts to European Radiology. Prof. Chen Xin from the Department of Radiology at the Second Affiliated Hospital of XJTU and Prof. Zhang Li from the MRI Section of the Radiology Diagnosis Center at Shaanxi Provincial People’s Hospital addressed topics such as alignment of breast imaging research with journal standards and common challenges faced by early-career researchers in the process of manuscript submission.
The successful convening of the Sino-Europe Scientific Seminar (Xi’an Session) has facilitated academic exchanges between radiology professionals from China and Europe. The seminar’s program covered core topics such as clinical study design and publication standards, and featured in-depth interaction between young scholars and experts, empowering early-career radiologists and advancing the development of radiology in Shaanxi.
