Department of Psychiatry Holds Forum on Precision Treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and Inaugurates OCD Diagnosis and Treatment Collaboration Network in Northwest China

On June 29, 2025, the Department of Psychiatry held the Forum on Precision Treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and the Inauguration Ceremony of the OCD Diagnosis and Treatment Collaboration Team in Northwest China at Xi’an Hotel. The event brought together over 200 experts and representatives from the five northwestern provinces of China, along with several renowned specialists in the field of psychiatry from across the country.

Professor Ma Xiancang, Vice President of the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), and Professor Wang Zhen, Vice President of the Shanghai Mental Health Center, delivered opening speeches at the forum.

Following the opening ceremony, the Inauguration Ceremony of the OCD Diagnosis and Treatment Collaboration Group in Northwest China was held. The first cohort of member institutions includes 15 units, such as the FAH and the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University. At the event, Professor Wang Zhen, Professor Xu Xiufeng from the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University, Professor Ma Xiancang and Professor Jia Yanbin from the First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University jointly presented appointment certificates to the initial member institutions.

At the forum, experts including Professor Wang Zhen, Professor Jia Yanbin, Professor Li Bin, Head of the Department of Psychosomatic Medicine, Psychiatric Center of West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Dr. Liu Ruina, Postdoctoral Fellow, Department of Psychiatry, FAH of XJTU, and Dr. Jing Jiangpeng, Attending Physician, Department of Neurosurgery, FAH of XJTU, shared insights on several key topics. These included the standardized diagnosis and treatment of OCD, the management of OCD in special populations, advancements in deep brain stimulation (DBS) for treatment-resistant OCD, as well as recent progress in gut–brain axis research and the therapeutic potential of microbiota-based interventions for OCD.

This forum has significantly advanced the standardized diagnosis and treatment of OCD in Northwest China, and has contributed to improving the overall level of OCD-related medical care in the region. In particular, the establishment of the OCD Diagnosis and Treatment Collaboration Group in Northwest China marked a major milestone. Moving forward, the group will strive to build synergy through joint efforts in key areas such as clinical diagnosis and treatment, talent cultivation, disciplinary development, and inter-institutional collaboration. It will focus on strengthening the development of OCD-related disciplines within Northwest China, while also enhancing external exchanges and cooperation with OCD collaboration groups across the country and internationally renowned experts and organizations, so as to deliver high-quality medical services to OCD patients in Northwest China.
