Recently, Professor Zhang Guangjian from the Department of Thoracic Surgery of the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) visited the University of Tokyo at the invitation of Professor Masaaki Sato. The visit focused on in-depth academic exchanges concerning technological advancements and clinical practices in the field of lung transplantation.

At the exchange meeting, Professor Zhang Guangjian introduced the development and practical achievements of the Lung Transplantation Center of the FAH of XJTU, focusing on optimization of surgical techniques, interdisciplinary team building, and postoperative infection control. He also shared the hospital's experience in managing complex cases and highlighted recent progress in improving long-term survival rates after lung transplantation. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as clinical diagnosis and treatment standards, management of postoperative complications, and collaborative research projects. Professor Sato shared the integrated management strategies for multi-organ functional support in the University of Tokyo, with a particular focus on its cutting-edge advancements in pediatric lung transplantation, offering valuable insights for the development of lung transplantation practices at FAH.

The University of Tokyo Hospital holds a globally leading position in organ transplantation, particularly in the field of lung transplantation. Professor Masaaki Sato has long been dedicated to the prevention and treatment of postoperative complications and the exploration of immune mechanisms after lung transplantation. He introduced the novel concept of "Restrictive Allograft Syndrome (RAS)", systematically elucidating a new phenotypic mechanism of chronic rejection after lung transplantation.

This exchange has deepened mutual understanding and laid a solid foundation for future cooperation. Professor Sato recognized the achievements of the FAH of XJTU in developing a comprehensive lung transplantation system and standardizing clinical procedures, and expressed his expectation for the establishment of a long-term and stable mechanism for cooperation between the two institutions.

At the invitation of Professor Zhang Guangjian, Professor Sato is scheduled to visit the FAH in the near future to further promote in-depth integration and collaborative innovation between China and Japan in the field of lung transplantation. Both sides agreed to take this exchange as an opportunity to actively explore the establishment of a bilateral cooperation platform for lung transplantation, jointly promoting the development and progress of regional and international lung transplantation efforts.
