To further broaden international horizons of researchers, enhance international influence and strengthen international cooperation and exchanges of MED-X Research Institute, the first session of Global Expert Lecture was successfully hosted by MED-X Research Institute in iHarbour with tremendous support from International Exchange Office on February 13, 2025.
Professor Patrick C.N. Rensen, Director of Endocrinology Laboratory of Medical Research Center of Leiden University in the Netherlands, was invited to the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) for academic exchanges and renewed his contract as a Visiting Professor of Department of Endocrinology in FAH. Professor Wang Yanan, Vice President of MED-X Research Institute and Director of Comprehensive Administration Office, Professor Liu Enqi, Director of Laboratory Animal Center of XJTU, Professor Xu Jiaxi from School of Basic Medical Science of XJTU, Professor Wang Shengpeng from Department of Cardiovascular Medicine of FAH, Professors from Institute of Immunometabolic Diseases, Zhang Tianxiang, Deputy Director of Comprehensive Administration Office, teachers and students from MED-X Research Institute, and representatives from School of Basic Medical Science of XJTU, Department of Endocrinology and Department of Cardiovascular Medicine of FAH were invited to attend the academic exchange event, which was chaired by Wang Yanan.
Director Wang Yanan warmly welcomed Professor Patrick C.N. Rensen to FAH since his last visit 4 years ago, and sincerely appreciated him for serving as a Visiting Professor of the Department of Endocrinology in FAH. She highlighted that Professor Patrick C.N. Rensen is a world-renowned expert in basic and clinical research of lipid metabolism, cardiovascular metabolism and fat function. During this visit, Professor Patrick C.N. Rensen will share the development trend and cutting-edge technology in the field of immunometabolism and provide guidance for FAH to carry out clinical research, hoping bilateral sides will further deepen cooperation.
Professor Patrick C.N. Rensen delivered a lecture entitled "Brown fat as a target in cardiovascular diseases: current evidence from preclinical and clinical studies", focusing on the regulation of energy metabolism through lifestyle intervention and pharmacological patterns as a strategy to prevent and treat obesity and related diseases (including type II diabetes mellitus, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis and atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases). After the lecture, Professor Patrick C.N. Rensen conducted intense discussion and communication with the experts and students attending the meeting.
After academic exchange activities, Professor Patrick C.N. Rensen was invited to visit MED-X Research Institute and Laboratory Animal Center of XJTU and conduct in-depth project discussion with relevant teams.
