On October 30, 2024, Carl Schwarz, Global Senior Vice President of Medical Department of Elsevier, Dr. Chen Bi, Publishing Director of Elsevier and Dr. He Haili, Journal Publisher of Elsevier visited the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU). Heads of administrative departments such as Department of Science and Technology, Department of Human Resources, Youth Volunteer Work Department•Youth League Committee, International Exchange and Cooperation Center and representatives of related disciplines of FAH attended the meeting. Wu Rongqian, Deputy Director of Department of Science and Technology, chaired the meeting and delivered a speech.

During the meeting, Dr. He Haili explicitly analyzed the journal publications by FAH in the medical field from 2019 to present, and demonstrated the number of publications by FAH in Top 20 medical journals in terms of impact factor (IF) and the FWCI value of the main journals published by FAH (1.47). FWCI refers to the Field-Weighted Citation Impact (FWCI). By comparing the citation times of each paper with the average citation times in corresponding discipline, the influence of the published paper in this discipline can be reflected.

Subsequently, Ren Fenggang from Youth Volunteer Work Department•Youth League Committee, and Wang Bin, Director of Department of Human Resources, interpreted the talent cultivation and support policy of FAH, highlighting that an intense scientific research atmosphere is one of the factors to improve the output and quality of scientific research. Zhe Jianqing from Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Yang Chengcheng from Department of Oncology and other participants conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on how to improve the contribution rate, pinpoint the pathway for academic researchers to serve as editorial board members and peer-reviewers of prestigious international scholarly journals, and strengthen academic disciplinary influence, etc.
