From April 26 to 27, 2024, "National Liver Failure Blood Purification Diagnosis and Treatment (Sailing) Project in conjunction with Centralized Training Meeting for Medical Staff (Northwest region)", hosted by Chinese Foundation for Hepatitis Prevention and Control and organized by Department of Infectious Diseases and Department of Hepatology of the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), was held in FAH. The meeting aims to deepen the understanding of clinical physicians and nurses for liver failure, enhance early identification of liver failure, especially before liver failure, and standardize the treatment of liver failure and rational use of artificial liver technology. Over 200 medical staff in the fields of hepatology, infectious diseases, ICU and blood purification from Shaanxi province, Gansu province, Qinghai province, Ningxia Hui autonomous region and Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region participated in the training course.

Director Wang Jiang, Project Director of Chinese Foundation for Hepatitis Prevention and Control, chaired the opening ceremony. Feng Guanglin, Deputy Secretary of FAH, Yang Xizhong, President of Chinese Foundation for Hepatitis Prevention and Control, Secretary General Li Zengde and Hou Jinlin from Southern Medical University delivered speeches, respectively.
The training meeting comprises 4 sessions. In the basic theory training, Professor Chen Jinjun from Nanfang Hospital of Southern Medical University, Professor He Yingli from FAH, Professor Gao Yanhang from the First Affiliated Hospital of Jilin University, Professor Li Jianzhou from FAH, and Professor Zhong Shan from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University were invited to deliver the training or chair the session. They mainly explained and discussed the diagnosis and treatment progress and pathogenesis of liver failure, construction of Artificial Liver Treatment Center and DRG interpretation.


In the professional course session, experts systematically introduced the diagnosis and treatment process and practical points of blood purification for liver failure (artificial liver technology) from the basic principle, mode selection, anticoagulation strategy, prevention and treatment of complications, catheter placement and prevention and treatment of deep vein thrombosis, catheter placement and maintenance, emergency plan and typical case sharing.
The operational observation was demonstrated by the artificial liver nursing team from Department of Infectious Diseases of FAH. This session consisted of 4 parts including pre-operation evaluation of artificial liver, installation and pre-filling of DPMAS pipeline, maintenance and dressing change and operation, and off-machine and sensing control.


Finally, on behalf of the meeting host and organizing committee, Professor He Yingli awarded the plaques to the central and sub-central hospitals from different provinces in northwest China.
